Type-in mode

Type-in mode lets the AI write directly into a field on the page you're looking at, a comment box, a form field, an email compose window, without you copying anything back and forth.

Turning it on

Click the Type-in mode button in the chat input bar's toolbar, or press Ctrl/Cmd+K while your cursor is already in an editable field on a page. Either way, Trace starts watching for editable fields on the current page.

Using it

Hover any editable field and a green cursor and ring highlight it. Click the field (or press Ctrl/Cmd+K again) to open a small prompt anchored right next to it. Type an instruction, for example:

make this more formal
shorten this to two sentences
write a polite decline

Type-in mode works on empty fields too: describe what you want and it generates the text from scratch, not just edits to something already there.

Reviewing before it lands

Submitting your instruction doesn't touch the field yet. The draft streams into a small floating card first, so you can read it before committing to anything. From that card you can:

• Insert (or press Enter) to place the draft into the field.
• Copy it instead, if you'd rather paste it somewhere else.
• Share it directly, using your device's native share options.
• Regenerate for a different draft of the same instruction.
• Keep refining with the follow-up input right below it, for example typing "shorter" or "more formal" without reopening the prompt.

Undo and exit

Right after inserting a draft, Ctrl/Cmd+Z reverts the field to whatever it said before. Press Escape at any point to exit Type-in mode entirely.
